OK, perhaps that’s going a bit far, but Zamioculcas Zamiifolia, also known as the Zanzibar Gem, ZZ Plant, Zuzu plant and Emerald palm, is a  virtually indestructible plant that’s perfect for newbies and those who are always on the go. It’s architecturally interesting shiny green leaves point upright and are packed with fleshy moisture – they are very touchable. Handles dark conditions like you wouldn’t believe.

This ‘eternity’ plant is so low maintenance it’s no maintenance. In fact, if you show it too much love it’ll die. Plant yours in free-draining mix and water only when it’s dried out. Test by putting your finger an inch into the soil. If it’s wet – leave it alone. Simple!

Quick Facts: 

• What to use me for: My fresh green foliage and low water needs mean I really suit an office desk, spare room or dry shady garden.

• I grow to: Approx 60-80cm high and 30-60cm wide.

• Where to place me:  Low light levels and lack of moisture mean you can put me just about anywhere in your home or office.

• How far to space me: 20-30cm if I’m going outside. 

• Soil Conditions: I need very free draining potting mix so I can dry out with ease. Don’t leave me in a damp pot or saucer.
